The "Becoming an Effective Mentor and Personal Grooming" workshop was held on December 6, 2023, at the Lancaster Hotel. The workshop was designed to provide mentors with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively support their mentees.

WORKSHOP CONTENT

The workshop covered the following topics:

1.聽What mentorship is and who needs mentorship:

路聽Mentorship is the act of sharing knowledge, skills, experiences and the right behaviour to help another person grow/develop (Pushfar).

路聽Everyone needs mentoring.

路聽Mentoring can be up/down, down/up or peer to peer.

路聽Someone who acknowledges the need for support and is ready to get back up.

路聽Someone hungry for growth.

2. When and how do you mentor?

Personal Grooming

  • It encompasses how well we take care of our bodies, what we do to take care of it and generally how we boost our personal image. It is said that people will address you by your dressing and therefore first impressions are crucial.

9. Steps to Redemption

  • Identify your challenge (internal/external)

ACTIVITIES

In addition to presentations and discussions, the workshop included interactive activities such as exercises and role-playing:

Exercise:

Mentorship:

  • Sharing of mentorship experiences and emphasizing key things that made it effective and what could have been done better.
  • Developing a simple mentoring agreement detailing all requirements for a mentee sign-off

Personal Grooming:

Identify;

  • what is working well
  • What is not working well
  • How do you improve

Role play:

  • Select a mentor
  • Share an area for mentorship support
  • Develop a mentoring agreement
  • Apply mentorship knowledge gained to support a mentee
